Nursing Home Resident Beaten to Death in IL

An elderly man who was living in a nursing home on the South Side of Chicago was recently beaten to death and his former residence is now being evaluated.

The man’s death has been ruled a homicide and the home is being fined for allegedly violating nursing home guidelines in terms of caring for and protecting their patients.

Death of Man Shocks Community

Ivory Jackson, 77, was reportedly assaulted while living at the All Faith Pavilion. After this incident, he was moved down the street to the long-care facility, the Renaissance. Days after being admitted to the Renaissance, Jackson died from sepsis and blunt head trauma.

“He was only in the Renaissance facility for four or five days before his death, “explains Fran Meehan, the attorney for the Renaissance nursing home.

All Faith Pavilion Fined

All Faith Pavilion, which was formerly the William L. Dawson Nursing Home, reportedly has a long history of public health violations.

Since 2004, the home has been forced to pay $80,000 for failing to properly train staff, neglecting patients and other behavior that has resulted in physical injuries and even death.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is now looking into the death of Jackson further, as well as the nursing home blamed for letting it happen.
